This Works!
Modifying a classic.

When the late Chuck Kraft described his CK nymph as something that worked "all the time ", he got my attention. I modified the black nymph, and I've been walking up to the water, fly fishing all day and walking away from the water end of day-only retying this one. Never using anything else. Here's the recipe. First, learn to tie the CK nymph. Here's the instruction: https://youtu.be/i71NMw14CeQ?si=3ur4lu7QTC6KyO6s
Next, modify the body material. Instead of black yarn, combine some all purpose black rabbit and WAPSI Dave Whitlock Dragonfly Dark dubbing in a dubbing loop. Wrap the same as you would the yarn. Finish per Chuck's instruction with the grizzly hackle. Standard bluegill and red ear hook I find is perfect: Streamer size 10 3XL.
The appearance of this modification is fully appreciated in actual sunlight. The Dragonfly dubbing has several shades of "buggy" flash in it. Copper, brown, a very "buggy" green. It looks so good, when I'm showing it off as above, bugs around me begin protesting-they can't look that good.
Don't substitute the WAPSI Dave Whitlock Dragonfly Dark dubbing. That's the secret sauce.
